@unionrdr As long as you are not spending a long time at the computer or having to hold your neck steady or in an awkward position to see the computer.

@Noobynoobynash Yep, in more ways than one. Thanks!

@threeque As long as you’re not having to hold your neck in an awkward position or have to hold it in one steady position, I guess split lenses can be okay. But I’ll bet if you tried getting a pair of computer glasses, you’d never go back. Oh yeah, I tried progressives for my ordinary glasses, could not stand them. Cheers!

I have been debating what to do next. I have progressives now. I love them until I need to do close up work. They are way to expensive too. Something else you can do to make your computer glasses more useful, is get bifocals, but have them put the line way above center. That way you can focus far in a pinch. I find it much easier looking through the top or over the top of my glasses than the bottoms. I have been thinking about getting a pair of glasses on line also. Seems that option may be ok.

I started getting try-focals so I could read my car’s gauges (about arms length). The 2 longer focal lengths to read street/highway signs. They work pretty good for the computer too. I love how they’re seamless.

@steeljan I finished and returned the rental…great game…I’m waiting for Brink and Battlefield 3 those are the next games I’ll be getting…Portal 2 absolutely an 8 out of 10…but not much replay value…Co-op was fun…but ultimately…just a rental

I use “computer glasses” too! My sister-in-law made them for me (she’s an optician).

My solution was to get a 52″ monitor (LoL).

Sent this link, to my ex, who has an iMac and graduated bi-focals.

Thanks, for doing what you do !

@JustAskTokes Yep, I started working on cars with my dad and uncle too early to remember. It was a great way to learn how to tear down and rebuilt engines and do all sorts of maintenance while getting a full vocabulary of curse words, lol. Thanks Tokes.

@QCAssociates Thanks David. Yeah, like I said in the video, I put up with using my bifocals on the computer screen no more than a couple of days before I started bugging my optometrist for computer glasses. Oh gee whiz, I just realized that was about 17 years ago, LOL!! Time flies. Cheers!

steeljan September 1, 2011 at 2:07 am

@jakecpunut Good luck with that. But I’ll bet that with bifocal contacts, you’ll be tilting your head back and looking down your nose at the computer screen. Then again, that position might be quite handy for beer drinkin’. LOL!! Cheers!

Neat.. I use to wear contacts all the time until my eyes changed again. Now i have to wear reading glasses when I wear my contacts.. BUT, my buddy just got bifocal contacts so I’m gonna ask about those next time I go to the eye doc!

Great post. I’ve been using the same computer glasses now for 20 years, ground to my bifocal power. I also use them to work on antique radios, and like you say, work on your car. I would be cross-eyed by now if I didn’t have them!
