Pedigree Dogs Exposed 1/2 (BBC Documentary)

Seventy five per cent of the seven million dogs in the UK are pedigrees, and they cost their owners over £10m in vet fees every week. This indepth investigation suggests they are in serious trouble, plagued by genetic disease due to decades of inbreeding. They are also suffering acute problems because of the showring’s emphasis on looks over and above function and health. Some physical traits required by the Kennel Club’s breed standards have inherent health problems (short faces, wrinkling, screw-tails, dwarfism) while other problems occur because of exaggerations bred into dogs by breeders trying to win rosettes. Deliberate mating of dogs that are close relatives is common practice and the Kennel Club continues to register dogs bred from mother-to-son and brother-to-sister matings. Scientists at Imperial College, London, recently found that pugs in the UK are so inbred that, although there are 10000 of them, it is the equivalent of just 50 distinct individuals — making them more genetically

A parody written and performed by optometrist Sarah Morgan to highlight the frustratingly natural vision change called presbyopia — a commonly misunderstood eye condition which affects everyone over forty. Eye health is frequently taken for granted — we only have one pair of eyes — look after them. A parody for educational purposes. Original lyrics and music by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus & Stig Anderson.

This? is why I have a cross breed. Part jack Russell, part Beagle. Had her since she was 3, she is now 14. Never had to go to the vet once! Always go with Mongrels people!

Crufts and politicians are a disgrace. I’d love to give them a slap and tell them to open their eyes. Bunch of snobby idiots with lots? of money. This is classed as animal cruelty. People shouldn’t be buying these breeds of dog knowing their problems. No one should encourage breeders to breed more of these unhealthy animals. Crufts are fine with inbreeding and they obviously have no idea how small of a gene pool they are messing with. It’s torture for these poor animals.

It is animals abuse. I’m ashamed to say some of us humans think we are way above others simply? we could speak and not bark and play god with other beings – the dogs – and inbreed them. How high handed and sick can some of us humans be?

I find it sadly ironic that Crufts would pull that Pekingese’s title for a face lift, but were just fine and dandy that it had such a severe health issue it needed surgery. WHEW it wasn’t cosmetic surgery!! Just a severe health problem that can be passed? on to it’s offspring! :/

inbreeding killed my best friend. i used to own a scottish terrier whose father was reserve champion at crufts. he could barely see past his own eyebrows and at the age of seven had to be put down because of inherited liver disease that he got from this so called “champion” fuck? that.

This is seriously the saddest fucking thing ever. I wish everyone would realize there are more than enough dogs starving on the? streets of north america and the third world to fill all homes geezz ass holes, living beings, not things.

This happens in the cat breeding world too. Persians are renowned for their breathing problems, which have got worse as fashion demands a flatter and flatter nose. The Sphynx, or bald breed started from a single kitten with a random genetic mutation. I’ve always had moggies and they tend to be much more healthy and resilient than fancy cats. You’ve got to ask yourself- do you love the animal for? the company and joy it can bring you, or is it a fashion accessory?

Reply

WolfsbaneShiranui October 25, 2012 at 5:34 am

This is why mutts tend to be? the healthiest but people are so biased towards them cause they all think purebreds are better.
I will never buy from a breeder. Its a waste of money.
I’d rather adopt a mutt.

What do they know about dogs and welfare?NOTHING!Do they love dogs?NO!? Do they care?NO.Breeders, judges, idiots that support this shameful business should be sent to jail for life, this is one of the worst forms of animal cruelty and abuse! These so called people show a lack of humanity, lack of respect and a huge dose of STUPIDY (and I do hate stupid people), and ARROGANCE by killing healthy puppies, inbreeding and denying scientific advice .ADOPT, NEVER BUY Do not support this INSANE BUSINESS
