What are the best terminal colors to reduce eye strain?

by David Jenyns

Question by rb: What are the best terminal colors to reduce eye strain?
This question has been asked here before but dint get a good answer so I am asking again:

When configuring a terminal screen on a computer, what are the optimal colors to use for background and text colors to reduce eye strain? White on black? Black on White? Green on black?
I know everyone has their “preference” but surely there has to be some scientific data on this?

It is always better to have darker background with a just enough contrasting font colour.
The aim is to reduce the amount of too bright light (glare) from entering the eye. This will reduce the strain on eyes
