One of my cousins before he died (he was an eye doctor for many many years) told me the thing to look out for is making sure your eyes are moisturized. A lot of times people don’t moisturize their eyes enough when wearing contacts and when they get older the corneas crinkle up and there are dry spots on the eyes.

With glasses your eyes continually degenerate over the years (I’d assume the same with contacts). There are exercises out there that you can do with your eyes to help make your eye site better so you don’t have to keep getting stronger and stronger prescription glasses.

I got lasik . . . not sure how many years it’s going to last me, but everyone I know who has gotten it done has been well pleased. I’ve had mine done for 3 or 4 years now and I’m happy as a clam.

Do you mean wearing contacts longer than their recommended wearing times? Like sleeping in contacts not prescribed for that? Lots can happen. Not all contacts are healthy to sleep in. Some people do this regularly and think nothing will happen. We see people like this all the time that have no idea what can happen. It is a good question to ask and to know about. Look these up and get their definitions and see if you can find pictures. They are all usually caused by over wear and misuse of contact lenses.

Corneal Neovascularization
Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis
Corneal Ulcers

All of these are extremely painful and very serious. Complications from these issues can lead to blindness. It has been documented and tested. This is why there are few contacts that are approved for extended wear by the FDA and they mandate that you should only wear them when supervised by a doctor. So….please consult your doctor if you need to wear them more than your waking hours! It sucks when you get an illness from over wearing them!
